Jaipur Consensus

December 2024 | Jaipur, India

A significant element of the General Assembly was the Hand Crafts: Future Horizons program developed and implemented by our hosts. The Symposium, Awareness Workshops for Artisans, craft demonstrations, and fashion presentation all contributed richness and knowledge to the program.

An important outcome of the symposium and other discussions was the Jaipur Consensus whose primary author Mr Ashoke Chatterjee, esteemed advisor and living treasure for craft in India gathered material presented and prepared the Jaipur consensus document that will guide us in the future.

Key elements of the document include the following guiding principles:

  • Urgency of positioning crafts within the circular economy, ensuring that traditional knowledge systems align with contemporary sustainability practices.

  • Artisan-led governance, ethical supply chains, and platform economies that enable direct-to-consumer access.

  • Design intervention, upskilling, and digital inclusion as levers for empowering craft communities while strengthening their foothold in global markets.
