Creativity and Tradition - An Embroidery Seminar & Workshop cum Exhibition was organised by the Crafts Council of India. The event was held from the 4th to the 9th of January 2001 at Hyderabad, India. The theme was “Embroidery: Creativity and Tradition”. 26 speakers from India and abroad presented papers on various aspects of embroidery in the Asia Pacific Region.

To highlight and showcase the rich embroidery tradition of the Asia Pacific Region, Crafts Council of India in collaboration with Crafts Council of Andhra Pradesh and the Asian Secretariat of the World Craft Council held a Seminar / Workshop and Exhibition entitled “Embroidery – Creativity and Tradition”.

The event, supported by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Government of India, discussed the cultural, aesthetic, social and economic aspects of the embroidery craft. Eminent international and national speakers from various fields of embroidery participated in the seminar.

A unique exhibition of breathtaking embroideries drawn from various parts of India and the Asia Pacific Region was also held. The exhibition brought together the best representative embroidery pieces from all over the country.
